"My time is up. I thank you for yours."

Six games into the 2008 season and the Auburn Tiger football team has stumbled out of the gates once again. The start ranks with the '03 and '07 underachieving starts and Auburn is also coming off arguably the worst loss of the Tuberville era. The Auburn fanbase is blank and bit angry. Offensive Coordinator Tony Franklin spent the Spring, Summer, and Fall selling what looks now to be the one-two punch of a Halfback Off-Tackle and a Bubble Screen. Question marks loomed for the Defense, when in fact, they have been an exclamation mark. The questions are endless now on The Plains. Is Tony Franklin a fraud? Will he be sent packing or is Tuberville just hell-bent on "The System"? Will the offense EVER find its identity? And on and on and on...

As for me, I will never give up on Auburn. I was born to be an Auburn fan. I know that the problems will eventually take a turn for the good but I'm not sold that it will be this year. I don't necessarily dread watching this Auburn team but watching this year's offense reminds me of watching the movie It through the cracks of my fingers as a seven year old boy. All the while my heart is breaking for this defense. This is perhaps the best defense of this decade and they can't stay off the field long enough to get their juice back. I am not done with Auburn and never could imagine that thought. This season is just not the season I expected. It pains me to admit it but watching Auburn football this year is nothing near the definition of "fun." In the soap opera that is Auburn football, I have always stood behind our leader's decisions concerning gameplans and also the staff. If I continue to express my true opinions, I will simply contradict myself. Perhaps the Auburn rollercoaster ride will take me to the top to find my desire to write again. But as for now, it's not enjoyable anymore. As the late great Jim Fyffe would say, "My time is up. I thank you for yours."
